Plumbing North Sydney: Every Fix, Install and Upgrade in One Place

1000+ five-star reviews

This is the general plumbing department of North Sydney. It covers every planned job, every nagging fault and every upgrade that is not an emergency and not underground. If it involves water coming out of a tap, going down an inside drain, or heating up on the way to a shower, it starts here.

The busiest department on the site. The suburb mixes Victorian and Federation terraces, double-brick semis, 1960s-1980s walk-up flats and brand-new towers, and the thirteen pages below cover every service we deliver, each with its own guide.

Assembling pipe fittings before installation

When to call, and which page to read

Most people arrive with a symptom, not a diagnosis. That is normal.

You are not meant to know whether a running toilet needs a new inlet valve or a full cistern. The list below routes the common symptoms to the right specialist page.

If the problem is underground or will not drain at all, our drainage department is the right door. If the problem is hot water specifically, start at the hot water hub.

Three eras of housing, three sets of plumbing problems

Walk any block here and you can read the plumbing history off the facades. Three distinct layers of housing stand side by side, and each fails in its own way.

The pre-1940 layer

The terraces and double-brick semis near Blues Point Road and around Don Bank Museum, the suburb's oldest surviving timber house, carry original galvanised water lines, clay drains and gas fittings that predate modern standards. Renovation season opens these walls up, and what is found inside is rarely up to code.

The 1960s-1980s layer

These walk-up flats keep our diary fullest. Whole blocks were fitted with hot water units, flexi hoses and fixtures of the same vintage, and they are all ageing on the same schedule. One unit in a block gets a new mixer installed, and within two years we have usually been back to half its neighbours.

The 2000s-present layer

The newest towers cluster around the rail corridor and the Victoria Cross metro station that opened in 2024. These homes are full of contemporary fittings: mixer taps everywhere, concealed cisterns, dishwasher plumbing, under-sink water filters. Wonderful when new, and unfamiliar to many trades when they fail. The era tells us what to expect before we arrive.

Two licensed local plumbers at the service van

Residential plumbing

The umbrella service: everything from a leaking tap in a Lavender Street unit to re-plumbing a whole terrace. We handle owner-occupied homes, rental properties managed on behalf of landlords, and strata work quoted directly for owners corporations.

Because the housing here is over two-thirds medium-to-high density, much of our residential work happens in apartments. Access, shared infrastructure and body corporate approval all shape the job, and we plan for all three before we start.

Maintenance plumbing

The smartest plumbing is the plumbing you book in advance. A maintenance visit inspects the fixtures and lines most likely to fail, including flexi hoses, toilet valves, hot water connections and the taps under laundries, and flags anything approaching end of life.

The quietest work we do, and the most valuable. In a suburb with so many ageing flat blocks, a maintenance visit to one unit often pre-empts the flood that would have reached the unit below it.

Toilet repairs

A toilet that will not stop running is not just noise. It is water metered and wasted around the clock. We repair inlet valves, outlet valves, fill mechanisms and broken seats, and we secure loos that rock on a failed seal.

For the full picture of what goes wrong and how it is fixed, see the toilet repairs guide.

Toilet installation

New suites save water, look better and stop the endless small repairs an old cistern demands. We install close-coupled, back-to-wall and wall-hung models, and replace concealed cisterns in newer apartments.

We also advise on models that suit both the room and the plumbing behind it. The full guide is at toilet installation.

Bathroom plumbing

Renovations are the big jobs here, and spring is when the pre-1940 terraces open up. We re-plumb bathrooms from the mixer down, relocate fixtures, and coordinate with tilers and builders so the plumbing lands where the design says it should.

Leaking showers that do not need a full renovation are covered too, on the shower repairs page.

Kitchen plumbing

The kitchen concentrates more plumbing per square metre than any other room: sink, mixer, dishwasher, disposal, filter, ice-maker line. We handle all of it, from a blocked sink spilling under the cabinetry to a full kitchen re-plumb during a renovation.

The dedicated guide lives at kitchen plumbing.

Tap repairs and mixers

The most common call in this department, by a distance. Mixer taps fail at the cartridge, drips start at the washer, and stiff handles are usually the mechanism grinding itself out.

Repairs are typically a single visit with the parts on the van, and replacements are quoted as a fixed price first. Everything about it is on the tap repairs page.

Shower and leaking shower repairs

A shower leak is a slow emergency: invisible for months, then suddenly a bulging wall or a stained ceiling in the room below. We pressure-test and diagnose before quoting, because some leaks are a ten-minute seal fix and others are a full waterproofing failure.

Symptoms, process and pricing structure are all detailed in the shower repairs guide.

Leak detection

The suburb's water bills tell stories residents have not decoded yet. Our leak detection service uses acoustic gear, moisture meters and pressure testing to find hidden leaks behind tiles, under floors and inside walls, without demolition.

High water usage with no visible cause is the classic trigger. If your meter keeps turning with every tap off, that is the call to make.

Water filters

Under-sink filtration has become standard in the newest towers, where residents want bottle-quality water without the bottles. We install, service and replace filter systems, and we plumb fridges with water and ice dispensers correctly.

Systems, maintenance schedules and options are covered at water filters.

Burst pipes

The one page for burst water pipes, whenever they happen and whatever caused them. Galvanised lines in the oldest terraces let go without warning, and flexi hoses do the same in the newest apartments.

What to shut off first, how the repair runs and what it costs in structure are all at burst pipes. If water is moving right now, call before reading.

Dishwasher and appliance installation

A dishwasher is a plumbing job pretending to be an appliance purchase. We connect water, drainage and (where needed) power-safe drainage arrangements, install fridge water lines, and mount washing machines and dryers with correct waste connections.

The full service list is at appliance installation.

Backflow testing

Properties with irrigation, fire services or commercial connections need annual backflow prevention testing by law. The council area's mix of offices, medical facilities and apartment buildings means plenty of them, from clinics near the Mater Hospital to towers along Walker Street.

We test, service and lodge the certification. The requirements are spelled out at backflow testing.

Repair, replace or maintain: choosing the right response

Not every plumbing fault deserves the same response, and the honest answer depends on the fixture's age, the repair's cost and the property's plans. Here is how we advise it.

Repair when the fixture is sound. A five-year-old mixer with a worn cartridge, a good toilet with a failed inlet valve, a healthy hot water unit with a replaceable valve: these are repair jobs, and repairing them is the right call. Repair costs less, lasts years, and wastes nothing.

Replace when repairs become a subscription. When a fixture has needed its third repair in two years, the maths has changed. Old cisterns that eat valves, mixers that no longer have parts made for them, and hot water units past their service life are all better replaced than rescued. We always tell you where that line sits before you cross it.

Maintain when nothing is wrong yet. This is the option people forget. A booked maintenance visit finds the flexi hose that is perishing, the toilet valve that is seeping, the connection that is weeping behind the laundry wall. It is the difference between a planned invoice and a 2am discovery, and in apartment blocks it protects your neighbours as much as you.

The era rule of thumb. In pre-1940 homes, suspect everything original and budget for surprises during renovations. In the 1960s-1980s flats, expect fixture and hot water replacement rather than repair. In the newest towers, repairs are usually quick because the fittings are modern; the risk there is the flexi hose, not the fixture.

From Berry Street to the ridge: where North Sydney's work clusters

Ask our plumbers where the general plumbing calls come from and the map draws itself. Three pockets, three kinds of jobs.

The terrace and semi work

It concentrates around Berry Street and the older pockets toward the harbour, where renovation season keeps unearthing original galvanised lines and ageing gas fittings that need upgrading and certifying.

The fixture and hot water work

It clusters in the walk-up flats spread across the ridge, where whole blocks of same-age systems fail on the same schedule.

The newest calls

Filters, appliance installations and mixer replacements come from the towers near the station and Victoria Cross. One suburb, three plumbing worlds, and our vans carry for all of them.

Good questions, straight answers

Questions North Sydney homeowners ask about general plumbing

What does a $0 call out fee actually cover?

The assessment and the written fixed quote cost you nothing, and if the price does not suit you, the visit still costs you nothing.

Can you work with strata and building managers?

Yes, we quote in writing for owners corporations and building managers, which matters in a suburb where most residents live under strata arrangements.

Do you upgrade old gas fittings during renovations?

Yes, pre-1940 terraces and semis here often carry older gas fittings, and we test, upgrade and certify them as part of renovation work.

How do I know if a dripping tap is worth fixing?

Any tap that drips or runs on is quietly adding to your water bill, and the fix is usually a single visit with parts already on the van.

Is a leaking shower always a big job?

No, many shower leaks are a failed seal or a worn cartridge, and we diagnose before we quote so you only pay for the fix your shower genuinely needs.

What happens if I decline the quote?

You owe us nothing, the call out stays free, and the written quote remains yours to keep for whenever you are ready. More answers live on our FAQ page, and you can meet the team on the about page.
